Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen excelled at sports and loved rough, athletic game. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural talent for doing shows. She was evident as she took home each Feis to show and play that Ireland had to offer. The Abbey Theater was her first choice. Abbey Theater by age 14 which was where she explored her love of the opera stage and classical theatre. Charles Laughton became captivated with Maureen's hauntingly gorgeous eyes after the screening test he attended. In the days before she was cast to play on the screen in Jamaica Inn (1939), Laughton and his partner, Erich Pommer, changed her name to Maureen FitzSimons to "Maureen O'Hara" - - a less slender name to be used for the marquee. Maureen was on contract with Laughton to shoot her next film in America at RKO Pictures (The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 1939). The epic film had a huge success, and Maureen's contract was eventually purchased by Laughton through RKO. Maureen Laughton had been on two motion-pictures at the age of 19.
